The Internet of things

Modern man is increasingly confronted with this term as the Internet of things. It is a network of physical objects with built-in means of interaction between them or between each of them and the environment. IoT is used in both business and business. What is it in its essence?

What is the Internet of things?

The technology of the Internet of things has a long history. The concept of connecting devices to each other dates back to the 19th century, for example, when people developed the first electric telegraph or radio. However, the term as a stand-alone unit appeared in the late 20th century and was coined by entrepreneur Kevin Ashton. He connected physical objects to the Internet via the RFID tag together with other developers.

The Internet of things is a computer network connecting several devices. They collect, process and transmit data to each other through special software. Each one of the IoT objects can work independently.

Where the Internet of things is used

The Internet of things technology is applied in different spheres. First, it is at least a «smart house» system. Google, Apple, Yandex and others have already submitted their plans to develop a device that will help users manage virtual helpers. You can use voice commands and turn on lights, music and even make online purchases.

IoT allows you to automate many production processes. This reduces labour costs, reduces logistics costs and improves the quality of the product or service. In addition, IoT is very useful for other fields of activities such as:

  • health care;
  • electricity;
  • transport;
  • retail trade;
  • agriculture.

In the modern world, the introduction of IoT has become very relevant and is used both in the lives of ordinary users and in production processes. In addition, you may face technological and personnel problems. Specialists are used to manual information gathering and have difficulty in applying the new rules. Technological problems are no exception. The cost of new equipment, as well as its maintenance, can be quite high.

The Internet of things has many advantages. However, IoT has many disadvantages. Nevertheless, there are strengths too:

  • Security. Malicious programmers «invent» different ways regularly in order to hack networks and steal important data. Therefore, it’s important to think about protection for the Internet of things.
  • Incompatibility between different types of software. Problems can arise when using equipment from different manufacturers. They are not always compatible. In addition, some devices may have software updates that do not work correctly with others.

Advanced analytics is another strength of the technology of the Internet of things. Technology makes a comfortable, safe and productive workplace.
